Established in 1968, the Animal Protection Institute (API) is a national, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to ending animal abuse. Through legislation, litigation, advocacy, and public education, API works to protect animals from cruelty and exploitation. API's primary areas of concern include wildlife, companion animals, animals used in entertainment, animals used in laboratory research, and animals in agriculture.
API also operates the API Primate Sanctuary, located in Dilley, Texas, where more than 400 primates rescued from abusive situations in laboratories, roadside zoos, and private possession live in a free-range environment with minimal human interference.
